There are some things you don't need to own to enjoy. It's not every day that you or a Family member has a birthday, for example. But if you want to invite over the whole neighborhood over to your place for a special occasion we have just the place you need to visit first: the MWR Rental Center, now open on South Fort. It's located right behind the main Burger KingŪ on Louisiana Avenue?the new center is in the big blue warehouse, building 3219.
Let's look at that party of yours. First, you'll need a giant inflatable for the kids who need to stay busy. You can get a canopy of your choice, from 10 feet by 10 feet all the way up to a gargantuan 20'x40'. Add a few six foot tables and a couple of dozen chairs and you're good to go. Well, maybe not just yet. You can always add one of their giant grills and cook enough bratwurst to make you guests look forward to a nice, long nap.
If you would like to take the show on the road for an adventure, the MWR Rental Center offers a full line of camping trailers up to 27 feet in length. All of them may be towed by a passenger vehicle.
For the life aquatic, take to the waves in a variety of boats. The biggest of them all is a "party barge," or pontoon boat capable of ferrying you and 7 of your closest friends in style as you explore a secluded inlet or island at Toledo Bend or Sam Rayburn lake.
You're welcome to take fishing seriously in one of the bay boats that is perfect for the fall redfish and speckled trout runs down south of Lake Charles. Now that it's cool enough to enjoy the boating life again, you can always mount up one of the many bass boats or aluminum jon boats, commonly known hereabouts as bateaus. Finally, you can rent a canoe to drift down the Sabine or one of the local sandy streams.
You get the point: there are just some things that you may want to enjoy occasionally, but not pay thousands of dollars for. Or even hundreds?what would you do with a crawfish cooking rig once you PCS to Fort Bliss?
