Loretta L. Nale, Director

Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation

Welcome to Fort Polk's Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation home page! We're glad you stopped by to visit and welcome your comments about our site. We want it to be useful.

For those visitors who aren't familiar with us, FMWR answers to both the Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) and the Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command (FMWRC).  We're charged with providing quality of  life programs in order to enhance readiness and ensure retention of quality Soldiers. That's a tall order, and a mandate for change.

So this issue finds FMWR (as usual) on the move.  Out on the big lake, Toledo Bend Recreation Site is adding two more cabins with spacious decks and fireplaces!  You can rent these for only $40 nightly. If you get  spring fever, take your show on the road: our new travel trailers are a great way to spend a weekend. The camper fleet can be found along with a wide selection of boats,  giant inflatables, canopies, tents, grills and more at the FMWR Rental Center on Louisiana Avenue behind Burger KingŪ.

Have you visited the new Strike Zone yet? Opened in December, the FMWR theme restaurant is a great late night eatery popular with bowlers and non-bowlers alike.  Strike Zone offers favorites like wings and pizza, great burgers and more. Now it's time to upgrade the Sparetime Lounge, right next door.

Over at Warrior Hills Golf Course,  we'll go to an all-electric cart fleet, move the headquarters and pro shop to Warrior Community Center and open a "Mulligan's" FMWR theme restaurant to replace the Warrior Hills Deli. This will happen by June 1.

FMWR is truly "For All of Your Life." As you'll see, at Fort Polk we serve Moms and Dads with a state of the art Child Development Program that was among the first in the U.S. Army to be nationally certified. Older kids, including teens, travel all around the region with Child and Youth Services, and they have sports opportunities of every kind. We have the only real skateboard park within a 75 mile radius!

And for people of all ages, you'll see what we have in store for you: everything from arts and crafts and live theater, fitness and demanding sports, special events and attractions, and access to the various cultural activities that make up the unique character of the state of Louisiana. Army FMWR wants you to know that we believe "Soldiers and their Families are entitled to the same quality of life as those they are pledged to defend." It's not a slogan: it's a commitment and a promise.

Low prices, great quality and friendly service? That's your FMWR at Fort Polk.  Welcome to the neighborhood, and see you at CajunFest!
